COAS Bajwa says won't let stability be compromised at any cost

Rawalpindi (Web Desk): Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa has said that the Special Services Group (SSG) is the army's pride and the armed forces have brought stability by failing all inimical forces operating against the country.

The army chief said this while visiting the SSG headquarters on Wednesday, said a statement issued by Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Asif Ghafoor on Twitter.

“We have brought stability by failing all inimical forces operating against Pakistan. We shall never let it go away at any cost. SSG is our pride with myriad contributions towards defence of country through its valiant officers & soldiers since creation of Pakistan," the DG ISPR quoted the army chief as saying.

COAS Bajwa’s statement comes a day after a special court handed a death penalty to former former army chief General (retd) Pervez Musharraf for imposing a state of emergency on November 3, 2007 and abrogating the constitution.

In a statement on Tuesday, the DGISPR had said that the special court verdict in the Pervez Musharraf treason case had been received with “alot of pain and anguish within the rank and file of Pakistan armed forces”.

"An ex-Army Chief, Chairman Joint Chief of Staff Committee and President of Pakistan, who has served the country for over 40 years, fought wars for the defense of the country can surely never be a traitor, the ISPR statement said.

"The due legal process seems to have been ignored including constitution of special court, denial of fundamental right of self defence, undertaking individual specific proceedings and concluding the case in haste," the statement added.

"Armed Forces of Pakistan expect that justice will be dispensed in line with Constitution of Islamic Republic of Pakistan," the military's media wing stated.
