COVID-19: Pakistan reports 1,272 new cases, 52 deaths in last 24 hours

Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pakistan rose to 567,261 on Thursday after 1,272 new coronavirus cases surfaced in the country during the last 24 hours.

Overall, 254,678 cases were confirmed in Sindh, 165,716 in Punjab, 70,306 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 18,958 in Balochistan, 43,029 in Islamabad, 4,945 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 9,629 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

According to the government's COVID-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached to 12,488 with 52 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.

Over the last twenty four hours, total number of recovered COVID-19 patients across the country reached 530,597 after another 2,052 virus recoveries were reported.

Meanwhile, the total number of new Covid-19 cases have been steadily declining globally for five straight weeks now, Xinhua News reported.

As per the news service, weekly new cases of Covid-19 have fallen by almost half during this time.

While five million cases of the novel coronavirus were reported globally in the first week of January, 2.6 million cases were recorded in the week starting February 8 - a significantly lower number.

It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 109.426,000 million and death toll tops 2.419,000 million.
