COVID-19: Pakistan reports 1,043 new cases, 39 deaths in last 24 hours

Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pakistan rose to 946,227 on Friday after 1,043 new coronavirus cases surfaced in the country during the last 24 hours.

Overall 330,552 cases were confirmed in Sindh, 344,641 in Punjab, 136,663 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 26,466 in Balochistan, 82,278 in Islamabad, 5,759 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 19,868 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

As per National Command and Operation (NCOC) data, 54,647 tests were conducted while positivity ratio remained 1.90%.

According to the government's COVID-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached to 21,913 with 39 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.

Over the last twenty four hours, total number of recovered COVID-19 patients across the country reached 888,505 after another 1,410 virus recoveries were reported.

Meanwhile, the government has entered into an agreement with China for the purchase of 27.5 million COVID-19 vaccine doses in the form of prepared jabs as well as raw materials to step up the ongoing nationwide vaccination drive in the country.

The National Institute of Health (NIH) said that the purchased vaccines included Sinopharm, CanSino and SinoVac. It added that the vaccine doses would be provided to the country in phases by December this year.

It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 176.693 million and death toll tops 3.830 million.
