COVID-19: Pakistan reports 2,566 new cases, 135 deaths in last 24 hours

Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pakistan rose to 882,928 on Tuesday after 2,566 new coronavirus cases surfaced in the country during the last 24 hours.

Overall 299,913 cases were confirmed in Sindh, 328,775 in Punjab, 127,224 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 23,931 in Balochistan, 79,371 in Islamabad, 5,428 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 18,286 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

As per National Command and Operation (NCOC), data 29,801 tests were conducted while positivity ratio remained 8.61%.

According to the government's COVID-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached to 19,752 with 135 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.

Over the last twenty four hours, total number of recovered COVID-19 patients across the country reached 795,511 after another 2,989 virus recoveries were reported.

Meanwhile, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah presided over a meeting of the Provincial Task Force on Coronavirus at the Chief Minister’s house in Karachi.

During the meeting, the Provincial Task Force extended the decision of the NCOC and decided the situation will be reviewed on Thursday.

Addressing the meeting, Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah said that strict decisions will be taken if the standard operating procedures (SOPs) are not followed and the coronavirus cases increase.

During the meeting, Murad Ali Shah directed that the Covid ward should be functionalized at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 162.7 million and death toll tops 3.375 million.
