IHC orders release of PTI's Shah Mahmood Qureshi

Islamabad (Web Desk): The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday ordered declared Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Vice Chairman and former foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi's arrest under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) law illegal and ordered his release.

IHC’s Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb issued the directives while hearing a petition challenging Qureshi's arrest.

The court ordered the PTI chief to submit an undertaking similar to the one given by former state minister Ali Muhammad Khan.

Qureshi’s lawyers informed the court that they would submit the undertaking after consulting the PTI leader.

Several PTI leaders, including Qureshi, had been arrested for “inciting violent protests” following party chairman Imran Khan’s arrest in the Al-Qadir Trust case on May 9.

On Wednesday, Justice Aurangzeb had issued orders for the release of PTI leaders Maleeka Bokhari and Ali Muhammad Khan after it declared their arrest under 3MPO as illegal as well.

Later, both Bokhari and Khan were re-arrested from outside the jail.

Meanwhile, After a local court ordered the release of the party’s leaders Shireen Mazari and Senator Falak Naz arrested in a case registered at the federal capital's Tarnol police station, the former was rounded up again for a third time on Wednesday.
