Indian COAS statement an attempt to divert attention from citizenship law protests: DG ISPR

Rawalpindi (Web Desk): Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Asif Ghafoor on Thursday said the "provocative statements" by the Indian army chief is an effort to divert the world’s attention from wide spread protests in India country against the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Act.

On Wednesday, Indian Army chief General Bipin Rawat had stated that the situation along LoC could escalate anytime and the Indian Army was maintaining high level of readiness to cater to different contingencies.

The DG ISPR took to Twitter and said that the rovocative statements and preparations for escalation along LOC by Indian COAS appear to be an effort as usual to divert world attention from wide spread protests in India against CAB.

Major General Asif Ghafoor added that Pakistan Armed Forces shall befittingly respond to any Indian misadventure or aggression.

Bipin’s statement came two days after a teenage boy was martyred after Indian troops shelled two different sectors along the LoC in Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Two other civilians were injured from the indiscriminate shelling.

India is currently facing widespread protests after the Bharatiya Janata Party passed the controversial Citizenship (Amendment).

As per the the new amendment to the Indian constitution, people belonging to the Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, or Parsi and Christian faiths, and fleeing ‘persecution’ in Muslim-majority Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan, may be granted Indian citizenship.

However, there is no similar provision for Muslim refugees, enraging the Muslim minority of India.
