Bannu CTD compound attack: Law enforcers launch operation against militants

Bannu (Web Desk): Security forces have launched an operation against the militants as the hostage situation in the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) police station in Bannu district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) continued.

According to sources, roads adjacent to the CTD compound and Bannu cantonment have been closed for traffic due to the security situation in the area whereas the internet services have been suspended in the city.

On Sunday, detained militants inside the CTD facility took over its compound, held interrogators hostage and demanded safe evacuation to Afghanistan.

The sources claimed that a CTD officials was  martyred and many more were injured.

The outlawed Tehreek-e -Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for the incident.

In a statement, a spokesperson for the militant group said that its members had taken CTD staff and security officials as hostage. He added that the militants, in a previous video statement, had demanded safe passage but “mistakenly mentioned Afghanistan”.

The militants reportedly control the entire police station compound.
As per reports, the body of a policeman, who was martyred last night by the firing of the militants, has been transferred to the police lines.

An international media outlet, quoting the local officials, reported that more than 30 Pakistan militants were holding several officers hostage on Monday after breaking free from custody and seizing a police station.
