Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pakistan rose to 1,281,240 on Friday after 418 new cases surfaced in the country during the last 24 hours.
Overall 473,767 cases were confirmed in Sindh, 442,268 in Punjab, 179,421 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 33,425 in Balochistan, 107,427 in Islamabad, 10,405 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 34,527 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).
As per the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) data, 40,143 tests were conducted in last 24 hours while positivity ratio remained 1.04%.
According to the government's COVID-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached to 28,648 with 10 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.
Over the last twenty four hours, total number of recovered COVID-19 patients across the country reached 1,230,094 after another 411 virus recoveries were reported.
Meanwhile, Germany will limit large parts of public life in areas where hospitals are becoming dangerously full of COVID-19 patients to those who have either been vaccinated or have recovered from the illness, Chancellor Angela Merkel said on Thursday.
The move is necessary to tackle a "very worrying" fourth wave of the pandemic that is overburdening hospitals, she said.
It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 256.387 million and death toll tops 5,148,100.
