Raja Riaz appointed opposition leader in National Assembly

Islamabad (Web Desk): Speaker National Assembly (NA) Raja Pervaiz Ashraf on Friday declared Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's (PTI) dissident leader Raja Riaz Ahmed as leader of the opposition in the Lower House.

According to details, Raja Riaz got support from 16 Members of National Assembly (MNAs).
The speaker approved this in pursuance of Rule 39 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of the Business in the National Assembly.

A notification to this respect was issued on Friday.

In a video message on Twitter, Speaker NA Raja Pervaiz Ashraf said that the verification of the signatures was done by 4pm.

He added that Ghous Bux Khan Mahar, Raja Riaz, and Hussain Elahi had submitted their nomination papers for the post.

Hussain Elahi had withdrawn in favour of Mahar, however, despite getting his support, Mahar could only gather support from six MNAs.
