COVID-19: Pakistan reports 1,792 new infections, 62 deaths in last 24 hours

Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pakistan rose to 458,968 on Monday after 1,792 new coronavirus cases surfaced in the country during the last 24 hours.

Overall, 204,840 cases were reported in Sindh, 131,933 in Punjab, 55,183 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 17,926 in Balochistan, 36,257 in Islamabad, 4,827 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and  8,002 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

According to the government's Covid-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached to 9,392 with 62 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.

Over the last twenty four hours, total number of recovered COVID-19 patients across the country reached 409,082 after another 1,680 virus recoveries were reported.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has suspended flights to Saudi Arabia after the Kingdom imposed ban on international passenger flights for one week in response to a new strain of the COVID-19.

According to PIA spokesperson, the national carrier suspended 18 flights to and from the Kingdom on Monday.

He said that all affected passengers will be accommodated at the earliest as soon as flights are restored and urged passengers to provide their correct phone numbers so they can be contacted with updates.

The spokesperson added that the affected passengers can  register through the airline’s UAN 11-786-786 with their working phone numbers to receive timely updates.

On Sunday, Saudi Arabia suspended all international passenger flights for one week in response to a new strain of the novel coronavirus. Entry to the Kingdom through land and sea ports has also been suspended and this period may be extended by another week.

It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 76.3 million and death toll tops 1.6 million.
