PTI's Shireen Mazari arrested from Islamabad

Islamabad (Web Desk): Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and former human rights minister Shireen Mazari was arrested from her residence in Islamabad.

According to sources, the former minister was detained by Punjab anti-corruption officials in a case registered in Dera Ghazi Khan.

Following Mazari's arrest, former premier Imran Khan has given a call for protest over the arrest of his party's senior member by anti-corruption officials with the help of capital city police on Saturday.

In his post on Twitter, Imran Khan said, "Our senior party leader Shireen Mazari has reportedly been violently abducted from outside her house by this fascist regime. Shireen is strong and fearless, if the imported govt thinks it can coerce her by this fascism, they have miscalculated!.

"Our movement is completely peaceful but this fascist imported govt wants to push the country towards chaos. As if sending the economy into tailspin wasn't enough, they now want anarchy to avoid elections," he said.

The former premier said that he will announce the date of his long march on Sunday after a party meeting.

Meanwhile, PTI has filed an application with Islamabad High Court (IHC), with its lawyers present at the court presently.

Earlier, Shireen's daughter Imaan Zainab Mazari-Hazir confirmed the development in a tweet saying that male police officers have beaten and taken her mother away.

"All I have been told is that Anti Corruption Wing Lahore has taken her,” she said.
