COVID-19: Pakistan reports 2,843 new infections, 42 deaths in last 24 hours

Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pakistan rose to 371,508 on Saturday after 2,843 new coronavirus cases surfaced in the country during the last 24 hours.

Overall, 161,028 cases were reported in Sindh, 113,457 in Punjab, 43,730 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 16,699 in Balochistan, 26,177 in Islamabad, 4,506 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 5,911 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

According to the government's Covid-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached 7,603 with 42 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.

Over the last twenty four hours, total number of recovered COVID-19 patients across the country reached 328,931 after another 1,389 virus recoveries were reported.

Meanwhile, the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the federal cabinet on Friday approved, in principle, a $150 million supplementary grant to procure anti-Covid vaccine.

The committee also allowed the Ministry of Economic Affairs to formally request G20 countries for extension in Covid-19-related debt relief involving about $900m for January-June 2021 period, in addition to an existing facility of about $1.8 billion relief for a period up to December 2020.

It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 56.6 million and death toll tops 1.35 million.
