COVID-19: Pakistan reports 660 new infections, 19 deaths in last 24 hours

Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The total number of recovered COVID-19 patients in Pakistan reached 308,674 on Wednesday after another 654 virus recoveries were reported during the last 24 hours.

Over the last twenty four hours, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases rose to 324,744 after 660 new coronavirus cases surfaced in the country.

Overall, 142,348 cases were reported in Sindh, 101,936 in Punjab, 38,779 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 15,717 in Balochistan, 18,309 in Islamabad, 4,091 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 3,564 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

According to the government's Covid-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached 6,692 with 19 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.

Meanwhile, Federal Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar on Tuesday said that last week the daily Covid-19 mortality rate was 12 - a 140% increase versus a few weeks earlier.

In a tweet, he said the country is collectively committing a blunder by recklessly ignoring all standard operating procedures (SOPs) and the results have started to show.

"If we do not change our current path, we will lose both lives and livelihoods," the minister said.

It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 40.2 million and death toll tops 1.6 million.
