COVID-19: China, Pakistan vow to 'strengthen cooperation' for vaccine development

Islamabad (Web Desk): Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi and his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi on Friday exchanged views on Covid-19 and agreed to further strengthen cooperation in developing a vaccine to defeat the novel coronavirus pandemic.

Addressing the media alongside Qureshi following the second round of China-Pakistan Foreign Ministers’ Strategic Dialogue in China’s Hainan Province, the Chinese foreign minister said since the outbreak of the virus, China and Pakistan have worked together to help each other in times of difficulty.

He said both countries shared their experiences in preventing the virus and provided medical supplies to each other, setting an example of inter-country cooperation in the fight against Covid-19.

Earlier on Friday, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi held a meeting with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi in Hainan province of China.

The foreign minister left for Pakistan on completion of his two-day visit to China.

FM Qureshi visited China to attend the 2nd Round of China-Pakistan Foreign Ministers’ Strategic Dialogue held in Chinese Hainan province wherein he also met State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi and discussed bilateral and regional matters.

The foreign minister presented Pakistan’s position on multiple bilateral matters during the moot.

During his brief visit, Qureshi also talked to Chinese and Pakistani media and apprised them of the objective of his tour.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi is the first foreign minister to visit China after downturn of coronavirus pandemic.
