20 killed, dozens injured in Afghan blast

Lashkar Gah, Afghanistan (Online): Over 20 people were killed and dozens injured after a car bomb exploded outside a bank in Lashkar Gah, capital Helmand province in Afghanistan on Thursday when civilian and military government employees were queuing to withdraw their salaries ahead of the upcoming holiday of Eid al-Fitr.

Provincial governor spokesman Omar Zwak confirmed that over 20 people had been killed and more than 50 injured, including police and army officials, civilians and staff of the New Kabul Bank branch where blast occurred, adding that the fatalities might rise.

No group has claimed responsibility for the latest attack but insurgent groups, including the Taliban and Islamic State have been carried out attack in the past targeting the banks
