ISLAMABAD: Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday said that he had never been involved in any business dealing with Qatari royal family.
While recording his statement in the Avenfield reference on second day, Nawaz said Qatar's Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jaber Al-Thani was ready to be a part of the joint investigation team's (JIT) investigation but the investigator did not record his statement.
The Avenfield reference, pertaining to the Sharif family's London properties, is among three filed against Sharif family by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) last year on the Supreme Court's directives.
Nawaz, his daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law Capt (retd) Safdar are appearing before Accountability Judge Muhammad Bashir today.
On Monday, Nawaz recorded answers to 55 questions in the Avenfield properties reference.
Prior to recording his statement before the accountability court, Nawaz said that it was inappropriate to include officers spy agencies in the Panamagate joint investigation team (JIT).
The former prime minister in his testimony termed the inclusion of officers from Military Intelligence and ISI in the JIT, adding that the JIT report was affected by the current tense civilian-military relations.
The Avenfield reference, pertaining to the Sharif family's London properties, is among three filed against Sharif family by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) last year on the Supreme Court's directives.
Other accused, Maryam Nawaz and Captain (retd) Safdar, who will record their statements after Nawaz , are also present in the court. At the last hearing, the accused could not be testified as the defence sought more time to ponder over the questionnaire sent by the accountability court.
The apex court established a six-member JIT, comprising Federal Investigation Agency Additional Director Wajid Zia as head, Amer Aziz of the State Bank of Pakistan, SECP Executive Director Communication Bilal Rasool, Irfan Naeem Mangi of National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Brigadier (retd) Nauman Saeed of the Inter-Services Intelligence and Brigadier Kamran Khurshid from the Military Intelligence.
