Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The total number of recovered COVID-19 patients in Pakistan reached 293,159 on Tuesday after another 290 virus recoveries were reported during the last 24 hours.
Over the last twenty four hours, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases rose to 306,869 after 582 new coronavirus cases surfaced in the country.
Overall, 134,243 cases were reported in Sindh, 98,487 in Punjab, 37,387 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 14,499 in Balochistan, 16,207 in Islamabad, 3,513 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 2,533 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).
According to the government's Covid-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached 6,424 with 4 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.
Meanwhile, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on National Health Services Dr Faisal Sultan said Pakistan has started a clinical trial of a vaccine against Covid-19.
Addressing the media, the special assistant said this is an important step as Pakistan is now included in the list of countries which are conducting clinical trials of the vaccine.
He expressed confidence that the vaccine will be safe and effective and will benefit not only Pakistan but people around the world.
Executive Director of National Institute of Health (NIH) Major General Aamir Ikram said during this phase, the vaccine will be administered to 8,000 to 10,000 volunteers in the next 4 to 6 weeks.
It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 31.4 million and death toll tops 968,000.
