Islamabad (Web Desk): President Dr Arif Alvi and Prime Minister Imran Khan have urged the nation to show utmost unity, discipline and passion in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic sweeping across the country and the globe, Radio Pakistan reported on Monday.

The prime minister and the president, in their separate messages on Pakistan Day, also paid homage to the founding leaders of the country, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Allama Muhammad Iqbal and other members of the freedom movement who paved the way for the creation of the country.

All kind of public gatherings, including the showpiece military parade, have been postponed as precautionary measures.

Pakistan Day is observed to commemorate the passage of the Lahore Resolution on this day in 1940, under which the Muslims of the sub-continent set the agenda of achieving a separate homeland.

The epicentre of the outbreak has now shifted to Europe, especially Italy, which is recording a rapid rise in new cases and deaths every day.
