COVID-19: Pakistan reports 532 new infections, 8 deaths in last 24 hours

Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The total number of recovered COVID-19 patients in Pakistan reached 293,916 on Wednesday after another 757 virus recoveries were reported during the last 24 hours.

Over the last twenty four hours, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases rose to 293,916 after 532 new coronavirus cases surfaced in the country.

Overall, 134,437 cases were reported in Sindh, 98,602 in Punjab, 37,418 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 14,607 in Balochistan, 16,246 in Islamabad, 3,542 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 2,566 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

According to the government's Covid-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached 6,432 with 8 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.

Meanwhile, public and private schools in the federal capital, Punjab, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Balochistan resumed classes 6 to 8 from Wednesday, in the second phase of the government's reopening of educational institutions.

Schools have been ordered to ensure implementation of standard operating procedures (SOPs) to control the spread of the virus.

Students, teachers and school administration are required to ensure social distancing and wear face masks, as well as regularly use hand sanitisers.

The Sindh government has delayed resuming classes by a week to further review the Covid-19 situation.

It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 31.6 million and death toll tops 969,000.
