COVID-19: Pakistan reports 111 deaths, 2,256 new cases in last 24 hours

Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pakistan rose to 465,070 on Thursday after 2,256 new coronavirus cases surfaced in the country during the last 24 hours.

Overall, 207,407 cases were reported in Sindh, 133,874 in Punjab, 56,160 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 18,005 in Balochistan, 36,721 in Islamabad, 4,838 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 8,065 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

According to the government's Covid-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached to 9,668 with 111 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.

Over the last twenty four hours, total number of recovered COVID-19 patients across the country reached 417,134 after another 1,782 virus recoveries were reported.

Meanwhile, Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet on Thursday approved duty and tax free import of cryogenic oxygen tanks for better handling of COVID-19 situation.

Minister for Finance and Revenue Dr Abdul Hafeez Sheikh chaired the meeting of the committee in Islamabad.

The duty free import of cryogenic tanks would ensure uninterrupted supply of oxygen gas at competitive rates.

It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 77.9 million and death toll tops 1.7 million.
