COVID-19: Pakistan reports 2,954 new infections, 48 deaths in last 24 hours

Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pakistan rose to 379,883 on Tuesday after 2,954 new coronavirus cases surfaced in the country during the last 24 hours.

Overall, 164,651 cases were reported in Sindh, 115,138 in Punjab, 44,932 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 16,846 in Balochistan, 27,555 in Islamabad, 4,558 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 6,203 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

According to the government's Covid-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached 7,744 with 48 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.

Over the last twenty four hours, total number of recovered COVID-19 patients across the country reached 331,760 after another 875 virus recoveries were reported.

Meanwhile, the Sindh government has imposed more restrictions to curb the spread of novel coronavirus amid second wave which include mandatory face masks wearing, ban on indoor weddings, and work from home policy among others.

According to a notification issued by the Sindh government on Monday, fresh measures have been taken in line with the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC) November 11 meeting which devised a nationwide policy to control Covid-19 spread in consultation with all relevant stakeholders.

As per the notification, wearing of face masks at government and private offices and public places has been made compulsory and fine will also be imposed in case of violation.

It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 59.1 million and death toll tops 1.39 million.
