COVID-19: Pakistan reports 799 new infections, 5 deaths in last 24 hours

Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The total number of recovered COVID-19 patients in Pakistan reached 294,392 on Thursday after another 476 virus recoveries were reported during the last 24 hours.

Over the last twenty four hours, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases rose to 308,217 after 799 new coronavirus cases surfaced in the country.

Overall, 134,845 cases were reported in Sindh, 98,686 in Punjab, 37,470 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 14,765 in Balochistan, 16,288 in Islamabad, 3,572 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 2,591 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

According to the government's Covid-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached 6,437 with 5 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.

Meanwhile, Federal Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar said that there has been an increase in Covid-19 testing at educational institutions in order to identify early trends.

In a tweet, the minister said 42,299 tests were carried out on Wednesday - the highest so far. He said the positivity ratio continues to be stable below two per cent.

It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 31.9 million and death toll tops 976,000.
