Islamabad: Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi has said that development of maritime sector is vital to fully benefit from the Pak-China Economic Corridor (CPEC).
In his message on the occasion of ‘World Maritimes Day’ on Thursday, Admiral Zafar said that the government has declared this year as the year of maritime economy which is a good step.
The Naval chief said that along with the traditional challenges, growing pollution is a serious issue and all coastal countries should make joint efforts to address the related issues.
He said that Pakistan Navy has taken various steps in this regard including cleaning of ports, prevention of oil spill and planting of mangroves in coastal areas.
Admiral Abbasi reiterated to extend his full support for the development of the shipping industry and the maritime sector.
