COVID-19: Pakistan reports 2,233 new cases, 50 deaths in last 24 hours

Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases rose to 1,234,828 on Friday after 2,233 new coronavirus cases surfaced in the country during the last 24 hours.

Overall 453,858 cases were confirmed in Sindh, 426,639 in Punjab, 172,498 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 32,828 in Balochistan, 104,764 in Islamabad 10,286 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 33,923 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

As per the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) data, 52,788 tests were conducted in last 24 hours while positivity ratio remained 4.23%.

According to the government's COVID-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached to 27,482 with 50 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.

Over the last twenty four hours, total number of recovered COVID-19 patients across the country reached 1,146,394 after another 2,789 virus recoveries were reported.

Meanwhile, the Punjab government on Friday suspended the Medical Superintendent (MS) and a senior doctor of Lahore’s Kot Khawaja Saeed Hospital over fake vaccination entry of former premier Nawaz Sharif.

Moreover, cases have been registered against three employees of the hospital involved in the fake entry of the coronavirus vaccination. Two of those nominated in the FIR have been arrested.

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and the police have registered separate cases in this regard.

A fake coronavirus vaccine entry was made using Nawaz Sharif’s name in the National Immunization Management System (NIMS) at the Government Kot Khawaja Saeed Hospital on September 22.

It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 231.417 million and death toll tops 4,743,062.
