COVID-19: Pakistan reports 2,152 new cases, 85 deaths in last 24 hours

Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pakistan rose to 467,222 on Friday after 2,152 new coronavirus cases surfaced in the country during the last 24 hours.

Overall, 280,415 cases were reported in Sindh, 134,345 in Punjab, 56,545 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 18,028 in Balochistan, 36,844 in Islamabad, 4,844 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 8,103 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

According to the government's Covid-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached to 9,753 with 85 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.

Over the last twenty four hours, total number of recovered COVID-19 patients across the country reached 418,958.

Meanwhile, Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet on Thursday approved duty and tax free import of cryogenic oxygen tanks for better handling of COVID-19 situation.

Minister for Finance and Revenue Dr Abdul Hafeez Sheikh chaired the meeting of the committee in Islamabad.

The duty free import of cryogenic tanks would ensure uninterrupted supply of oxygen gas at competitive rates.

It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 77.9 million and death toll tops 1.7 million.
