COVID-19: Pakistan reports 1,361 new cases, 64 deaths in last 24 hours

Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pakistan rose to 575,941 on Thursday after 1,361 new coronavirus cases surfaced in the country during the last 24 hours.

Overall, 257,089 cases were confirmed in Sindh, 169,474 in Punjab, 71,490 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 19,010 in Balochistan, 43,901 in Islamabad, 4,955 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 10,022 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

According to the government's COVID-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached to 12,772 with 64 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.

Over the last twenty four hours, total number of recovered COVID-19 patients across the country reached 539,888 after another 1,681 virus recoveries were reported.

Meanwhile, in a statement on Twitter, Federal Minister for Education Shafqat Mahmood on Thursday announced that all the schools would resume regular 5-day classes from March 1.

Shafqat Mahmood said that the decision of restrictions imposed in some major cities on schools to conduct staggered classes was only till February 28.

The minister added the announcement applies to every educational institution in the designated cities where restrictions had been imposed.

It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 111.762,000 million and death toll tops 2.479,000 million.
