Zahir Shah appointed as acting NAB chairman

Islamabad (Web Desk): Zahir Shah has been appointed as the acting chairman of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

According to a notification issued on Friday, Zahir Shah will continue as chief of the anti-graft watchdog until the next chairman is appointed.

“In pursuance of the proviso[n] to Section 6(b)(v) of amended NAO 1999, Mr Zahir Shah, shall act as Chairman, National Accountability Bureau, with effect from 22-02-2023 and till the appointment of new chairman, under the ordinance,” the notification stated.

Zahir Shah, who has been acting as NAB deputy chairman, is already looking after the anti-corruption agency since Aftab Sultan tendered his resignation from his office as the bureau's chairman.

He has been serving with NAB for almost two decades and has held key positions in the organisation.

The acting NAB chief also served as the bureau’s Director General (Operations) in the past and was subsequently appointed as its deputy chairman in October 2021.

Shah had also performed his duties as the acting chairman for the anti-graft watchdog for about a month in June 2022, following which Aftab Sultan was appointed for the role.
