COVID-19: Pakistan reports 798 new infections, 7 deaths in last 24 hours

Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The total number of recovered COVID-19 patients in Pakistan reached 294,740 on Friday after another 348 virus recoveries were reported during the last 24 hours.

Over the last twenty four hours, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases rose to 309,015 after 798 new coronavirus cases surfaced in the country.

Overall, 135,246 cases were reported in Sindh, 98,864 in Punjab, 37,525 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 14,838 in Balochistan, 16,324 in Islamabad, 3,608 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 2,610 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

According to the government's Covid-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached 6,444 with 7 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.

Meanwhile, President Dr Arif Alvi said the government's strategy of a smart lockdown was very effective in controlling the spread of the novel coronavirus.

Referring to the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), the president said institutions in Pakistan have been working effectively during the pandemic.

Addressing the virtual meeting of the Association of Pakistani Physicians of Northern Europe, he maintained that the government's contact and tracing strategy proved very effective in tackling the infection.

It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 32 million and death toll tops 976,000.
