CJP says ‘Will not spare Nehal Hashmi’

Islamabad (Staff Report): The Supreme Court (SC) on Monday rebuked Pakistan Muslim League- Nawaz (PML-N) senator Nehal Hashmi in connection with the contempt case and said, ‘Will not spare Nehal Hashmi’.

The three-member bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Saqib Nisar resumed hearing a contempt of court case against Nehal Hashmi and played the video clip of Nehal’s controversial remarks against the judiciary.

During the hearing the CJP remarked, “How dare you abuse the apex court judges. We will not spare you.” Chief Justice Nisar went on to add if Hashmi would use the same language for himself.

Supreme Court Bar Association of Pakistan (SCBA) president Rashid A Rizvi, present on the occasion, said Hashmi asks Supreme Court for forgiveness but his conduct was indefensible.

The CJP then said the contempt notice against the former senator could be discharged on the bar’s request.  The court also issued a notice to SCBA president for tomorrow.

The hearing of case has been adjourned till tomorrow.

Earlier, the Supreme Court (SC) on Monday (March 12, last hearing of the case) decided to indict Nehal Hashmi in contempt of court case on March 26th.

Taking up its second contempt notice against Hashmi, the apex court termed his reply unsatisfactory and turned down his apology, announcing to indict him.

Nehal Hashmi appeared before the top court second last week where he pleaded the court to reconsider its decision as his “children would die” to which the CJP responded: “You should have thought of that earlier,” adding that the court would “take care of” Hashmi’s children.

While talking to the media outside the top court, the PML-N loyalist claimed that he never uttered any words against the judges and judiciary.
