PM Imran, Army chief Bajwa reach Miranshah

Miranshah (Staff Report): Prime Minister Imran Khan and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa on Monday reached North Waziristan.

The prime minister and army chief will be briefed on the security situation, ongoing stability operations, socio-economic projects and rehabilitation of TDPs, according to the military’s media wing Inter Services Public Relations.

PM will later visit Ghulam Khan Terminal/ border fencing and address jirga of local elders at Miran Shah ISPR added.

Defence Minister Pervaiz Khattak, KP Chief Minister Mehmood Khan and other civil and military leaders are accompanying the premier and army chief.

According to sources, the premier will meet jirga comprising elders of North Waziristan and South Waziristan and announce a mega uplift package for FATA.

According to the constitution amendment, FATA will be granted sixteen general seats, four seats for women and one seat for non-Muslims in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly. The elections shall be held within one year after the general elections.

The amendment reduces the number of seats in the National Assembly from 342 to 336. The members of the National Assembly from FATA to be elected in 2018 election shall continue till the dissolution of the Lower House.
