COVID-19: Pakistan reports 3,306 new infections, 40 deaths in last 24 hours

Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pakistan rose to 386,198 on Thursday after 3,306 new coronavirus cases surfaced in the country during the last 24 hours.

Overall, 167,381 cases were reported in Sindh, 116,506 in Punjab, 45,828 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 16,942 in Balochistan, 28,555 in Islamabad, 4,583 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 6,403 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

According to the government's Covid-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached 7,843 with 40 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.

Over the last twenty four hours, total number of recovered COVID-19 patients across the country reached 334,392 after another 1,418 virus recoveries were reported.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Imran Khan has urged the nation to strictly follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to curb spread of Covid-19.

Talking to media in Lahore on Wednesday evening, PM Khan appealed the people to act responsibly and wear masks as it is the “easiest precaution one can take”.

The premier said with the blessing of Almighty Allah, the nation not only successfully overcame economic problems, but also contained spread of the coronavirus during the first wave of the pandemic.

All this happened due to the complete support from the people, especially, Ulema, the PM added.

It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 60 million and death toll tops 1.420 million.
