Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pakistan on Wednesday rose to 59,850.
Overall, 21,118 cases were reported in Punjab, 24,206 in Sindh, 8,259 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 3,536 in Balochistan, 638 in Gilgit Baltistan, 1,879 in Islamabad, and 223 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).
According to the National Command and Control Centre, the death toll related to COVID-19 has reached 1,231, while at least 19,142 patients have fully recovered.
The number of coronavirus cases has continued to soar despite the country remained under a lockdown nearly one and a half month.
Meanwhile, Chairman National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Lieutenant General Muhammad Afzal on Tuesday said that there is no shortage of ventilators and protection equipment (PPE) to treat COVID-19 patients across Pakistan and everything is under control.
The NDMA chairman said that if the coronavirus situation deteriorates in the country by the end of June then the country may need 2,000 ventilators.
“Ventilators in all cities have been used less than 50%,” he said. Lt General Afzal added that the authority’s preparations for the ventilators have been finalised.
He said that all matters related to ventilators are in control. “There are 128 people on ventilators in the country”, the NDMA chief added.
The global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 5.5 million and death toll tops 350,000.
