Faizabad hearing: Interior Minister appears before IHC

Islamabad (Staff Report): Federal Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal appeared before the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday, to attend the hearing of cases filed against Faizabad protesters.

Ahsan Iqbal appeared soon after the court remarked on his absence, directing him to appear within 15 minutes before the hearing was adjourned for a break.

The hearing of the Faizabad sit-in case started under the supervision of IHC Justice Shaukat Aziz.

The hearing began and lawyers of both parties were present at court, however, Ahsan Iqbal was absent. Justice Shukat Aziz Siddiqui questioned Deputy Attorney General (DAG) on Iqbal’s absence.

DAG informed Justice Shaukat Aziz that the interior minister had been negotiating and holding talks with the Faizabad protestors the whole of Sunday night, and has not appeared before court for this reason.

In answer to the question about the resulted of negotiations, DAG said that he himself found out from the media about the on-going changes on the protest site.

Further, Justice Shaukat Aziz has asked the interior minister to submit a detailed report of the failed operation conducted on Saturday with reasons for its failure.
