Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pakistan rose to 389,311 on Friday after 3,113 new coronavirus cases surfaced in the country during the last 24 hours.
Overall, 168,783 cases were reported in Sindh, 117,160 in Punjab, 46,281 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 17,008 in Balochistan, 28,980 in Islamabad, 4,598 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 6,501 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).
According to the government's Covid-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached 7,897 with 54 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.
Over the last twenty four hours, total number of recovered COVID-19 patients across the country reached 335,881 after another 1,489 virus recoveries were reported.
Meanwhile, thousands of volunteers are flocking to research hospitals across the country to join final-stage clinical trials of a Chinese-made vaccine for the COVID-19.
It is the first time Pakistan has participated in such a trial, which comes amid a string of positive vaccine announcements by Western pharmaceutical companies this month.
The vaccine is being developed by CanSinoBio and the Beijing Institute of Biotechnology China.
It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 60.8 million and death toll tops 1.430 million.
