COVID-19: Pakistan reports 1,974 new cases, 55 deaths in last 24 hours

Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pakistan rose to 473,309 on Monday after 1,974 new coronavirus cases surfaced in the country during the last 24 hours.

Overall, 211,276 cases were reported in Sindh, 136,147 in Punjab, 57,467 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 18,082 in Balochistan, 37,272 in Islamabad, 4,850 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 8,215 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

According to the government's Covid-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached to 9,929 with 55 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.

Over the last twenty four hours, total number of recovered COVID-19 patients across the country reached 423,892 after another 1,760 virus recoveries were reported.

Meanwhile, Minister for Science and Technology Chaudhry Fawad Hussain said the government will try its best to cover big chunk of population with free-of-cost coronavirus vaccine.

Addressing a press conference in Lahore, he said private companies would be given permission to import coronavirus vaccine.

The minister said vaccine would be administered to front-line workers and senior citizens on priority basis.

It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 78.8 million and death toll tops 1.7 million.
