Asif Ali Zardari tests positive for COVID-19

Karachi (Web Desk): Former president and co-chairman Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Asif Ali Zardari has tested positive for COVID-19.

PPP chairman and Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari shared the news on Twitter.

Earlier this week, the former president had travelled to Dubai to celebrate his 67th birthday with his nine-month-old grandson. Asif Ali Zardari was born on July 26, 1955.

Meanwhile, Zardari’s daughter Bakhtawar Bhutto-Zardari also took to Twitter and said that the former president tested positive upon landing in Dubai but his symptoms were “mild”.

She added that Zardari would return once he was recovered, and reminded everyone to “remain precautious” of the disease.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also sent his prayers and best wishes for the "quick recovery and complete health" of the former president.

On the other hand, Pakistan reported 761 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday while the positivity ratio remained 3.65% during the last 24 hours.

As per data shared by the National Institute of Health (NIH), 20,843 coronavirus tests were conducted across the country during the last 24 hours.

Eight deaths were reported from the disease and 528 people recovered from the virus in the last 24 hours while 170 patients were on critical care across the country.
