Karachi (Web Desk): Pakistan on Tuesday reported three confirmed cases of UK Covid-19 variant in Karachi.

Sindh Health Department, in a statement, said the new COVID-19 variant has been identified in samples taken from three passengers who recently returned from Britain.

Samples of 12 UK returnees were taken for genotyping out of which six tested positive for the COVID-19, it read and added that three showed the new variant for the COVID-19 in the first phase of testing.

“Samples of 3 UK returnees show a 95% match to the new Corona Virus variant from UK in the first phase of Genotyping,” the department said in a tweet.

On Saturday, the World Health Organisation (WHO) said that it was “in close contact with UK officials on the new COVID19 virus variant” and promised to update governments and the public as more is learned.
