COVID-19: Pakistan reports 1,644 new cases, 46 deaths in last 24 hours

Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pakistan rose to 541,031 on Friday after 1,644 new coronavirus cases surfaced in the country during the last 24 hours.

Overall, 244,340 cases were confirmed in Sindh, 156,404 in Punjab, 66,451 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 18,798 in Balochistan, 41,176 in Islamabad, 4,909 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 8,953 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

According to the government's COVID-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached to 11,560 with 46 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.

Over the last twenty four hours, total number of recovered COVID-19 patients across the country reached 496,745 after another 2,167 virus recoveries were reported.

Meanwhile, A World Health Organization (WHO)-led team of experts investigating the origins of the COVID-19 pandemic began meeting with Chinese scientists

The world health body said that the group plans to visit labs, markets and hospitals in Wuhan.

On Thursday, the team completed two weeks of quarantine following its arrival in China, moving to a lakeside hotel in the central Chinese city where the deadly virus emerged in late 2019.

It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 100.4 million and death toll tops 2.166,000 million.
