COVID-19: Pakistan reports 7,963 new cases, 27 deaths in last 24 hours

Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pakistan rose to 1,410,033 on Saturday after 7,963 new cases surfaced in the country during the last 24 hours.

Overall 538,196 cases were confirmed in Sindh, 474,208 in Punjab, 190,578 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 34,277 in Balochistan, 125,203 in Islamabad, 10,604 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 36,967 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

As per the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) data, 70,389 tests were conducted in last 24 hours while positivity ratio remained 11.31%.

According to the government's COVID-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached to 29,219 with 27 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.

Over the last twenty four hours, total number of recovered COVID-19 patients across the country reached 1,276,719 after another 2,062 virus recoveries were reported.

Meanwhile, the NCOC has announced to extend existing Nonpharmaceutical Interventions (NPIs) till February 15.

A notification in this regard was issued in Islamabad on Friday.

As per notification, fresh review will be carried out on February 10.

All federating units are requested to issue notifications and disseminate to all concerned at priority.

Moreover, in a tweet, the NCOC has urged general public to ensure vaccination and follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) to contain new variant of coronavirus ‘Omicron’.

It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 370,604 million and death toll tops 5,668,505.
