COAS arrives in Parachinar as protest enters eighth day

Kurram Agency (Web Desk): Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa arrived in Parachinar here on Friday.

The military head had to pay a visit to the violence-torn city on Tuesday however, the plan was postponed due to bad weather.

Intra-Services Public Relations (ISPR) reported that the army chief would meet tribal elders and families of those martyred in a recent spree of violence.

It bears mentioning that scores of protesters gathered at Shaheed Park calling upon the government to play its part for eradicating terrorism in the region continued their demonstrations for the seventh day on Thursday.

Holding placards bearing #ParachinarAao, the victims urged the political bigwigs including prime minister Nawaz Sharif, PTI chairman Imran Khan to visit the place in person.

Earlier, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif announced compensation money for the families of people killed and those who were injured in the Parachinar blasts on June 23.

As per the announcement, Rs1 million will be given to the families of people killed in the two blasts. Rs0.5 million has been announced for those left injured by the explosions.

As many as 75 people were killed on Friday when two bombs went off in a crowded market as shoppers were out buying supplies in preparation for the breaking of the fast on one of the last days of the holy month of Ramazan.
