SC fixes contempt of court petitions against Nawaz, Imran and Iftikhar Chaudhry

Islamabad (Staff Report): The Supreme Court (SC) will take up separate contempt of court petitions against former chief justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan on April 4.

Two contempt petitions have been filed by Riaz Hanif Rahi against the former CJP and ex-premier. The application against Chaudhry has been filed regarding the provision of a bullet-proof vehicle.

Senior lawyer Naseer Ahmed Kayani has filed a petition against Imran Khan, accusing him of committing contempt of court by using derogatory language against Iftikhar Chaudhry.

Another petition, filed against the appointment of Justice Qazi Faez Isa, has also been fixed for hearing on April 4.

The petitioner had challenged Justice Isa’s appointment as the chief justice of Balochistan High Court.

However, the registrar’s office had overruled the objections and returned the petition. But a three-member bench will take up the petition to see whether it is maintainable or not.
