COVID-19: Pakistan reports 658 new cases, 10 deaths in last 24 hours

Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pakistan rose to 1,272,345 on Saturday after 658 new cases surfaced in the country during the last 24 hours.

Overall 469,475 cases were confirmed in Sindh, 440,003 in Punjab, 177,889 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 33,244 in Balochistan, 106,874 in Islamabad 10,390 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 34,470 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

As per the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) data, 45,690 tests were conducted in last 24 hours while positivity ratio remained 1.44%.

According to the government's COVID-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached to 28,439 with 10 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.

Over the last twenty four hours, total number of recovered COVID-19 patients across the country reached 1,220,941 after another 836 virus recoveries were reported.

Meanwhile, Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar, who also heads the NCOC, has said the government is making progress to vaccinate the people.

In a tweet on Saturday, he said we had set a target of vaccinating seventy million people by the end of 2021.

The minister said that 70 million people have now received at least one dose and 40 million are fully vaccinated.

The NCOC chief was confident that the vaccination target will be met and rather exceeded.

It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 246.801 million and death toll tops 5,005,181.
