COVID-19: Pakistan reports 747 new infections, 5 deaths in last 24 hours

Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The total number of recovered COVID-19 patients in Pakistan reached 296,881 on Wednesday after another 541 virus recoveries were reported during the last 24 hours.

Over the last twenty four hours, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases rose to 312,263 after 672 new coronavirus cases surfaced in the country.

Overall, 136,795 cases were reported in Sindh, 99,378 in Punjab, 37,776 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 15,257 in Balochistan, 16,581 in Islamabad, 3,778 inGilgit-Baltistan (GB) and  2,698 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

According to the government's Covid-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached 6,479 with 5 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.

Meanwhile, the primary schools across the country have resumed classes today under strict Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Moreover, Federal Minister for Education Shafqat Mehmood visited different schools in Islamabad to review the implementation ofSOPs.

"It is our collective responsibility to adhere to the precautionary measures against Covid-19," he said.

On September 15, educational institutions across the country reopened after a six-month coronavirus break.

In March, the government had decided to close school, colleges and universities in March in order to curb the spread of coronavirus.

It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 33.6 million and death toll tops 1,004,000.
