PM Imran urges world to take notice of reports on ethnic cleansing of Muslims in India

Islamabad (Web Desk): Prime Minister Imran Khan on Saturday said that Modi Govt's ethnic cleansing of Muslims should send alarm bells ringing across the world that the illegal annexation of Kashmir is part of a wider policy to target Muslims.

In a tweet, Prime Minister Imran Khan said, "Reports in Indian and international media on Modi Govt's ethnic cleansing of Muslims should send alarm bells ringing across the world that the illegal annexation of Kashmir is part of a wider policy to target Muslims."

PM Khan also shared a recent report from the Indian state of Assam where almost two million people were denied citizenship on Saturday, risking mass deportations of Muslims from the area.

Earlier today, the final National Register of Citizens (NRC) list was released today in India’s north-eastern state of Assam that critics said targeted the region’s Muslim minority.

A total of 31.1 million people were included in a National Register of Citizens (NRC), but 1.9 million were deemed ineligible, according to the Assam government. A large chunk of those excluded were expected to be Muslims.

Assam has long seen large influxes from elsewhere, including under British colonial rule and around Bangladesh's 1971 war of independence, when millions fled into India.

Only those who can demonstrate that they or their forebears were in India before 1971 could be included in the list.

The NRC move comes mere weeks after India’s illegal and unilateral revocation of occupied Kashmir’s autonomous status on August 5.
