Islamabad (Web Desk): The Foreign Office (FO) on Wednesday summoned Indian Deputy High Commissioner Gaurav Ahluwalia and lodged strong protest over unprovoked ceasefire violations by the Indian forces along the Line of Control (LoC).
On July 30, a civilian was martyred and nine others, including women and children, were wounded when Indian troops resorted to unprovoked firing in Danna, Dhddnial, Jura, Lipa, Shardda and Shahkot sectors along the LoC.
In a statement, FO Spokesperson Dr Muhammad Faisal said the Indian forces along the LoC and the Working Boundary are continuously targeting civilian populated areas with heavy weapons.
"The deliberate targeting of civilian populated areas is indeed deplorable and contrary to human dignity, international human rights and humanitarian laws," the spokesperson said.
He said the ceasefire violations by India are a threat to regional peace and security and may lead to a strategic miscalculation.
Dr Faisal urged the Indian side to respect the 2003 ceasefire arrangement and investigate the recent and past incidents of ceasefire violations.
The FO spokesperson also stressed that Indian forces should respect the ceasefire in letter and spirit and maintain peace on the LoC and the Working Boundary.
He urged that the Indian side should permit United Nations Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP) to play its mandated role as per the UN Security Council resolutions.
On July 28, an innocent civilian lady was martyred while three other civilians sustained serious injuries in unprovoked ceasefire violations by the Indian forces in Mandhar and Kirni villages in Nezapir Sector. In Kailer Sector, an innocent civilian was injured in Katchar village.
