Kabul (Agencies): The body of the martyred Pakistani consulate staffer, Rana Nayyer Iqbal, was handed over to the security officials at the Torkham border from where it has been taken to Islamabad for the final rituals.

A Pakistani diplomat serving at the consulate in Afghanistan’s Jalalabad city was assassinated on Monday evening, local media reported.

According to reports, Nayyer Iqbal was shot six times while returning home after offering evening prayers.

Attaullah Khogyani, the spokesman for the provincial governor in Nangarhar, said the employee of Pakistan 's consulate was shot by two gunmen on a motorcycle in Jalalabad, the province's capital.

The diplomat 's body has been shifted to a hospital in Jalalabad for postmortem examination.

Iqbal hailed from Sialkot and was working in the consulate's visa section.
