World Habitat Day being observed

World Habitat Day being observed

New York (Web Desk): World Habitat Day is being observed across the globe today (Monday) to address the problems of rapid urbanisation and its impact on the environment and human poverty.

This year's theme is 'Mind the Gap. Leave No One and No Place Behind'.

In 1985 the United Nations (UN) designated the first Monday of October every year as World Habitat Day.

The day is observed to reflect on the state or condition of towns and cities and promote the basic right to adequate shelter or housing for all.

It is also intended to remind the world of its collective responsibility for the future of human habitat. First celebrated in 1986, Nairobi was the host city. The theme was “Shelter is My Right”.
