European Parliament’s body demands India to lift curfew in IoK

Brussels (Web Desk): The European Parliament's Committee on Foreign Affairs has demanded the Indian government to immediately lift curfew in occupied Kashmir, the Radio Pakistan reported.

Expressing serious concern over the continued lockdown, suspension of all communication means and media blackout in the held valley, the European Parliament strongly criticized India and condemned the Modi-led government for its brutal action that has brought life to standstill in occupied Kashmir.

Raising their voice for the oppressed Kashmiris, Members of the European Parliament also demanded India to start dialogue with Pakistan.

They said that the European Union and the European Parliament should issue a reactionary statement on the situation in occupied Kashmir at the earliest.

On August 5, India abolished Article 370 that granted special status to occupied Kashmir. The Modi government sent in an unprecedented number of Indian troops to the disputed valley, imposed a curfew and placed Kashmiri politicians under house arrest.

The move has been condemned internationally and by opposition leaders in India.
