Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pakistan rose to 1,047,999 on Wednesday after 4,722 new coronavirus cases surfaced in the country during the last 24 hours.
Overall 389,699 cases were confirmed in Sindh, 359,321 in Punjab, 145,862 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 30,749 in Balochistan, 88,676 in Islamabad, 8,391 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 25,301 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).
As per the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) data, 57,398 tests were conducted in last 24 hours while positivity ratio remained 8.22%.
According to the government's COVID-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached to 23,575 with 46 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.
Over the last twenty four hours, total number of recovered COVID-19 patients across the country reached 945,829 after another 1,454 virus recoveries were reported.
Meanwhile, the Punjab government on Tuesday imposed a lockdown in Lahore, Multan, Rawalpindi and Faisalabad due to spike in the number of COVID-19 cases.
As per the notification, the lockdown had been imposed from August 3 and will remain in effect till August 31.
The decision to reimpose restrictions was taken by the NCOC after reviewing the worsening situation of the pandemic in the country.
On the other hand, Pakistan received the target of one million-COVID-19 vaccinations in a day on Tuesday.
This was announced by Federal Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar who commended the performance of all the federating units to achieve the milestone.
It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 200.309 million and death toll tops 4,259,717.
