Lahore (Web Desk): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday urged Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Umar Ata Bandial to form a full court commission to probe Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan’s allegations related to gun attack on him during long march in Wazirabad.
Addressing a press conference in Lahore, the premier said he thinks this is the need that this time there should be immediate decision on the basis of justice.
PM Shehbaz vehemently rejected the allegations that he, interior minister and the senior military official had any link with the attack on Imran Khan during PTI’s long march.
"If I am found involved in any conspiracy, I will quit politics," he announced.
The premier said he will write to the chief justice to formally request him to constitute the full court commission headed by a top court judge.
He said that the federal government will also fully cooperate with the commission and will accept its findings whole-heartedly.
PM Shehbaz said the Pakistan Army's demand to probe the allegations of the PTI chief will be accepted in letter and spirit.
“I will appear before the commission whenever it will summon me,” he said.
Condemning the politics of Imran Khan, PM Shehbaz said that the PTI chief has been continuing the malicious campaign against institutions, which is helping to fulfil the enemy's agenda.
"Pakistan's Armed forces have rendered matchless sacrifices in the war against terrorism," he said.
PM Shehbaz said that Imran Niazi is misleading the nation by levelling false allegations, spreading propaganda and speaking blatant lies.
The prime minister said the former PTI government registered fake cases against its political opponents.
Condemning the Wazirabad incident of firing on PTI's long march, the prime minister said that the interior ministry has been directed to investigate the incident.
"As the security of the long march was responsibility of the Punjab government, however, it is a big question mark that no First Information Report (FIR) has been registered so far".
The premier raised the question that why Imran Khan was taken to Shaukat Khanum Hospital immediately after the Wazirabad incident.
"Extremism in the politics cannot be tolerated and levelling baseless allegations on institutions should also be stopped," Shehbaz Sharif said.
He said Imran Khan used the killing of senior journalist Arshad Sharif for political objectives and also used religious card against political opponents.
PM Shehbaz also prayed for early recovery of the PTI chief and others wh were wounded in gun attack during long march.
The development comes a day after Pakistan Army on Friday stated that the baseless and irresponsible allegations by the PTI chairman against the institution and particularly a senior army officer were absolutely unacceptable and uncalled for.
“Pakistan Army prides itself for being an extremely professional and well-disciplined organisation with a robust and highly effective internal accountability system applicable across the board for unlawful acts, if any, committed by uniformed personnel,” the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a news release.
The military’s media wing said, however, if the honour, safety, and prestige of its rank and file were being tarnished by vested interests through frivolous allegations, “the institution would jealousy safeguard its officers and soldiers no matter what.”
“The baseless allegations hurled at the institution and officials today are highly regrettable and strongly condemned. No one will be allowed to defame the institution or its soldiers with impunity.”
Keeping this in view, the ISPR said, the government of Pakistan was requested to investigate the matter and initiate legal action against those responsible for defamation and false accusations against the institution and its officials without any evidence whatsoever.
Earlier during his address, Imran had asked his party workers and supporters to continue protesting against the assassination attempt on him until three “accused” prime minister, interior minister and an army officer, resign from their post.
He said country’s biggest political party was being pushed against the wall and attempts were being made to kill him.
PTI chief Imran Khan and several party members were injured while a party activist was killed in firing incident at former premier's container during his “Azadi March” in Wazirabad, on Thursday.
PTI Senator Faisal Javed, party leaders Umar Dar and Ahmed Chattah, were also among the people injured in the incident while a citizen, identified as 42-year-old Moazzam, died on the spot.
